Mindfulness
During his journeys, Lobsang conducted programs aimed at instructing the public in mindfulness and the Art of Compassion. He provided meditation guidance to Russian veterans returning from wars, visited correctional facilities and juvenile halls in the United States, and engaged in interfaith dialogues alongside religious representatives spanning diverse nations. Since 2011, Lobsang has served as a Buddhist chaplain at Santa Clara County Jail (Elmwood Correctional Center), teaching mindfulness practices to inmates. This serves to foster positive dormitory interactions, stress management, to be a good self-companion during isolation, and become a better reintegration into society upon release. Currently, he teaches Art as Healing in San Francisco State University.
Lobsang is trained to teach Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR), developed by Dr. Jon Kabat-Zinn at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center. MBSR took many of the Buddhist meditation practices Lobsang has long used, and Westernized them, shifting the focus from a spiritual to a medical / health practice. This offered new tools for individuals to walk more in balance and reduce the mental, emotional, and physical impact from their daily lives and medical diagnoses.
